Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am an elementary school art teacher in an urban public school. I teach 600 students from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade. This project would be for my 60 second grade students.

My second graders love to tell their stories. They want to share stories about their lives, dreams and experiences. My second grade students love to draw and read books. As a public school we do not have the resources to provide the students with their own journals that they need to tell their tales. They would make incredible authors and illustrators if given the opportunity.

For this project I will need blank journals, crayons and markers. With these supplies the second grade students could create their own books filled with their own stories and illustrations. It is so important to give children the opportunity to express themselves creatively.

Your help will empower my students to be able to make real books of their own. They will tell their stories and share a piece of their world. This project will spark a love of writing, illustrating and reading in these children.
