Telling Our Stories

My students need printer ink and paper cardstock to bring our stories to life.

My Students

My students love to tell their story in pictures. We love to use our digital camera to take photos that illustrate what we are observing and learning about in the world around us. It's fun to share our photos and other computer work using multimedia and print.

My students are preschoolers with disabilities attending an early childhood special education program.

Each of my student's learning is tailored to their specific needs with an Individual Education Plan (IEP). In our Title 1 school, 100% of students qualify to receive free breakfast and lunch at school due to low family income. Our school is made up of preschoolers and kindergarteners attending an early childhood learning center. My classroom serves a wide range of students with disabilities, including students who have: developmental delay, intellectual disability, autism, Down syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities, cerebral palsy, speech/language impairment, blindness, and other impairments. Like typical preschoolers, they enjoy coming to school and participating in all that we have to offer.

My Project

We love to do special activities and record our experiences using photos and print. Students become both the authors and illustrators of our stories. It's fascinating to see how students learn about communicating with others using printed material and sharing their ideas.

Because we have shared so many experiences together, our printer is now running out of ink and we can no longer print in color until we have more ink.

With new ink and paper card stock, we can print photos and computer illustrations to make classroom books about what we have learned. We can also use pictures to communicate other ideas for our students who are pre-verbal. Students use our classroom stories to review their learning and to communicate what we have learned to our families, other classrooms, and visitors to our building.
