This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember how uncomfortable school chairs are? Many of my students are not able to sit and focus in their chair. Cushions will provide them with an alternative for sitting comfortably in an environment that will enable them to learn and bring the characters in their books to life with puppets!
My 32 first grade students are excited to grow as readers.
In a high-needs, overcrowded urban area, it is important that students are supported with differentiated instruction to fit their varied needs. Many of my students have learning disabilities and need a lot of motivation. In addition, the majority of my class is English language learners that require a lot of extra support with language. What better way to provide practice with students than role playing!
My Project
Cushions would provide an endless source of comfort for my students in small group activities throughout the day, and even as a reward, as they are exciting, motivating and very comfortable. Currently, when working in small groups with my students, we sit on the floor due to overcrowding, so these cushions would be a lifesaver for students now and years to come!
The puppets would help students bring stories to life, a literacy concept many of my students have difficulty with. It will allow them to role play. This will benefit all students, especially my English Language Learners, and provide students with motivation which will be very encouraging for my students with disabilities. The number lines will provide students with an endless resource for their math curriculum which will assist students with number identification, adding, subtracting, and skip counting. Help my 32 first graders learn how to retell, count, and have the luxury of sitting comfortably in our classroom.
