This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down!" Do you remember huffing and puffing with all your might as someone read this tale to you when you were a child? Help my students discover the fun and the lessons to be learned through traditional tales.

My students are young enthusiastic learners!

They enjoy listening to and reenacting stories. The majority of my students are learning English as a second language. During choice time you'll always find a group of students in the library nook quietly, and sometimes shyly, retelling a favorite story or discovering a new book.

My Project

I am requesting 3 story books, 1 set of puppets, 1 Folk Tales and Fairy Tales library, and 1 Storyteller Read-Along library. Not only will I have the opportunity to enhance story time with the literature, puppets, and compact discs, my students will be able to use these same materials. By listening to the stories, reading the books and presenting puppet shows to fellow classmates, my students will have multiple experiences with the tales. My students will be inspired and encouraged to develop their own stories, thus increasing their oral language abilities.

Stories presented with the aid of audio-visual materials can help to capture a child's imagination.

Retelling traditional tales using puppetry will help my students internalize language patterns and enhance their listening skills. When my students create their very own puppet shows, they will increase their confidence and have opportunities to work cooperatively with others.
