My Project
These language-rich texts will given my students access to quality literature to develop their vocabulary, language comprehension, and expressive language skills. The students I work with have communication disabilities resulting from weaknesses in language and literacy skills. In speech therapy sessions, they are working on using strategies to increase their ability to understand and use language - classifying and defining vocabulary, creating mental imagery, and retelling stories based on the "movies" they've created in their mind. Stories with rich vocabulary, engaging illustrations, and interesting storylines are essential in developing these skills. My hope is for my eager learners to be able to understand what they hear and read, and be able to effectively express their unique thoughts and ideas.
