Teens Learn Skills for Reading & Life From Books

Help me give my students great books where they can either find themselves or find another world in which they can escape their current troubles. Help me help them to love reading again.

My Project

Teens need books more now than ever! I teach struggling middle school readers in an intervention class. Many of them tell me that they 'hate reading' and haven't liked a book in years. I love my small charter school, but we don't have a school library. So, my classroom library needs to be amazing!

Loving reading is the first step towards getting better at reading!

With all of the distractions today, even many adults have given up reading as a hobby. However, really good stories can still draw us in and we suddenly find time and motivation to read a book. It is the same for teen and tween readers. Most of all, reading one book may give us a chance to find other people like us, to feel less alone, and to better love ourselves.

I have been teaching for 24 years and I am still driven to share my love of reading with my students - so they can improve their reading skills and they can learn more about life and themselves. Can you please help me?
