Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students, teachers, and staff at our school are intentional and very excited to be back to school full-time in person. In the next two months in my Health Education class, students will be discovering and evaluating the power of the Adolescent Brain. Serving 100% newly arrived immigrant teens means that all of my students have intensive language-learning needs, and I want to keep them engaged and comfortable in class. I need an additional microphone and speaker, in addition to some materials to teach my unit, that will allow each student -- regardless of language access -- to practice speaking to the class, to me, and to each other with increased confidence and engagement. Although simple, the use of a mic makes a huge impact on class participation and ensures that students and myself can practice "active listening" to see, hear and appreciate each student's perspective.
