My students need the Kindle Fire tablets and protective cases in order to help them become better readers. Some need the extra help of having a book read to them and the games to practice.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
One of my favorite quotes goes, "Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself." -old Chinese proverb
I truly believe this. I can do everything in my power to open the doors of education for my students, but if they don't want to enter or "learn", then they will not. I must entice them!
First of all, my students are the reason I am still teaching.
I am a second grade teacher in Glendale, Arizona in one of the lower income neighborhoods. My school receives little to no support from outside resources, community, parents, etc. So, if we want something, we have to get it ourselves. And that is exactly what we do. My students are some of the most intelligent, creative, active, funny, loving souls you'll ever meet. Most do not even know they are going without. They do not have computers or ipads at home. That is why I would like to provide them with some of the technology that other children use every day. Because, let's face it, learning is more fun if you can make it into a game and play on a tablet!
My Project
With the Kindle Fire tablets and cases, my students will not only be able to read books, but they will be able to access online resources to help them in every subject. They can have stories read to them if they are not able to read themselves. This will not only help my struggling readers with reading, but it will give them a sense of freedom to make mistakes without being judged by a teacher or other students. Students can also access online resources to help them in math, science, and social studies. Not only will the Kindles help my struggling students, but it will be a great resource for my gifted learners as well. They can use the kindle to write papers, research items of interest, and even create their own books, stories, paintings, games, etc. They can access resources that can make learning fun for them. They can play educational games all while learning to use the technology that they do not get to use every day.
Donations to this project will give my students access to world beyond books and the classroom.
They will learn technology skills while using the tablets that will help them now and later on in their everyday lives. Now instead of telling other kids their age that they don't know what a Kindle is or how to use a tablet, they will be able to brag about all of the cool things they learned how to do on the Kindle in second grade. Your donation will help make learning fun again for every student!
