This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
New York City Public School 56 Queens is a Title I school with a student body of approximately 70% eligible for free lunch. We are fortunate to have Internet access but space is at a premium. For that reason, going vertical will provide a solution if we can obtain a rack that will house our computer, monitor and printer. That would afford more space for students and still allow technology integration in the class across the curriculum. A workstation that would allow us to build up instead of across could allow network printing while students access the computer without requiring additional width. We are fortunate in that our building has high ceilings making a vertical solution an option. The furniture we are requesting also is on wheels making mobility, and therefore flexibility an asset. Students could wheel both computer and printer to optimal locations within the classroom so as to address student needs in a differentiated curriculum.
We have a tower computer with a separate monitor and a color printer that would be placed on this rack, should it be funded. After considerable research we arrived at this particular choice because of its strength, vertical solution (with options to expand with additional shelving), and price.
