My Students
I have been teaching in a Title I school in New York. Our second graders are comprised of 20- English Language Learners and some ICT students, many of whom come from multi-generational households. They are also from non-English speaking low-income nuclear and/or extended families.
Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and to do their best every day.
Despite many economic and social challenges that my students face each day, I want them to know that I am an educator who wants them to succeed in our school community and local communities. I am interested in providing them with creative and meaningful learning experiences every day in every subject such as Science, Reading, Writing, Math, Computers, and Social Studies. My students and I are always excited to continue to explore the world of second grade science especially to learn about rocks and what plants and animals need to live and to grow.
My students are very interested in accessing various educational apps in our classroom and use technology to help deepen their interests and understanding of how NYC subway works. We take pride in scaffolding their thinking and gain hands on experiences.
My Project
For Social Studies, my students are very interested in deepening their understandings about the New York City Subway System. Students need to work with their partners to gather interesting facts and photos by accessing various websites such as the New York Transit Museum and the Museum of City of New York.
My students will work on the iPad in pairs to gather and organize data that they have collected from various educational websites and to present their findings to the group.
They can also work with their partners to organize their findings and determine what facts and photos are important to share with the group.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
