Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my classroom are very loving and caring individuals. My students are very talented 25 young individuals who come from a low socioeconomic section in Florida. I have ESE, ESOL and autistic immigrant students. My students come to school filled with eager to learn and be the best they can be. My students face many challenges inside school to succeed and do their best, and they struggle outside of school to not allow the environment that they live in to stop them from achieving their dreams.
My Project
For this project, our school's physical education students will be able to catch up on skills they have missed due to Hurricane Irma through the use of smart technology and traditional team sports drills. The effects of Irma on the physical and emotional health of the students in our district cannot be underestimated. Some of our students missed as much as two weeks of class and for many, the only time they get any exercise at all is during the school day.
With an iPad Pro, I will be able to utilize a variety of websites, applications, and programs that will aid in my student's success.
For example, there is an application that can video record the student performing a skill and then loop back the video for them to see how they did. I would then pair that with a reflection piece in which they would grade themselves on how they performed the skill. This should help tremendously in helping them understand the basic concepts of each general skill. With more success at the basic skill level, it will lead to more success in the more complex tasks as they grow up. Introducing technology will enhance the student's physical education knowledge, skill, and experience. The students will be able to access and utilize a variety of applications, programs, and websites to teach, review, or reflect on all physical education and health skills and topics.
