My Students
Starting kindergarten can be a challenging time for a kid, especially if you speak a different language. Students worry who their teacher is, what friends they will make, how they will succeed in class subjects. As a kindergarten teacher with a 25 amazing New York City students, and half being English Language Learners, my job is to make ALL students feel safe and cared for, so that they are able to learn in a nurturing environment.
It is amazing to watch the students academically succeed and - more importantly - socially get along as they speak the language of kindness and friendship.
It is a beautiful thing to watch and guide throughout the school year.
My Project
My young learners love to touch everything - it's what helps them learn. Technology is also important for my students, especially my English Language Learners. We have a couple of computers in our classroom, but they are not touch screen. Students struggle to manipulate the mouse or keypad to play educational games, like Imagine Leaning.
Having a Microsoft Surface Go, which is a touch screen tablet, would allow the students to do what they do best - touch - to guide them through the learning games.
A touch screen tablet in the classroom would help my students play educational games more easily, which will help to reinforce their vocabulary and knowledge of letter sounds, sight words, and math skills.
More than half of students from low‑income households
