This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My educational philosophy is that every child deserves a quality education, regardless of where he or she grows up. I work in a school in the poorest district in New York City. I teach third grade in the South Bronx.
All of my kids come from low-income families, and many do not have access to computers at home.
In today's world, most people in this country take it for granted that they have a computer in every room of their house or an arm's reach away. However, for my students, the reality is that the achievement gap is growing-and many experts say that technological lags in impoverished neighborhoods are partly to blame. I need to find a way to get my students access to computer technology.
My Project
A perfect solution for us would be four laptop computers. These computers would open up a world of technology for my classroom. With these tools, I can have students work in groups to research on the Internet, participate in interactive games, blog with their peers, as well as publish their writing pieces. I would also be able to project lessons, activities, videos and websites for the whole class to experience. I would like to get several of these machines so that different students will be able to use the computers at the same time. This will allow me to differentiate instruction for students on different levels. Netbooks would be a world-changing experience for all of my students finally enabling them to experience some of the technology available to many of their middle-class peers.
Through the generosity of donors like you, my classroom has already received 2 Chromebooks.
Now, I would love to get a class set so that small groups can be working. With your help, my students will be prepared in 21st century literacy. You will give my students a chance to continue to flourish even amid difficult circumstances. Thank you!
