This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Education is our passport to our future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today," Malcolm X. Technology is taking over the world, and my students are ready to do just the same!
My 4th-graders attend a low-income school in an urban setting.
Approximately 700 students attend the elementary school where I teach. Many of them come from low-income, single family homes. My 30 students are English language learners and many of them have learning disabilities. But, regardless of their limitations they have one thing in mind, and that is to one day attend college. My students are very hard working, and they try their very best every day! But, unfortunately our school currently doesn't have the funds to purchase new computers for our classrooms. There is a computer lab that is currently under construction and my students have not had access to the lab this entire school year. It's tough when I assign research projects, or they want to read books online, practice typing among other things and there is not enough chromebooks for everyone to access.
My Project
My 4th graders are english language learners and love using technology every chance they get. Unfortunately it doesn't happen to often at our school. We currently don't have a working computer lab. I only have one laptop which I currently use to project my lessons through out the day. In my classroom I have 3 working Chromebooks and its not enough to give all 30 students daily access. I would love to have a technology center that is able to rotate each 20-30 minutes in order to give everyone access to word doc, google classroom, internet for research etc. My students are curious about the world around them and what better way to have them learn about the world than with technology! I am sure that two laptops will make a huge difference and provide more opportunities for more students to be able to have access to technology.
