Technology: Visual and Media Literacy!

My students need a laptop to connect to our projector so we can share PowerPoints, view streaming video content, and develop media literacy.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Gray's classroom raised $419

This project is fully funded

My classroom needs a laptop to connect to our projector! My school is seriously lacking in technology, and I feel ALL of my students would benefit from learning how to give visual presentations and watch relevant streaming video content, such as students participating in slam poetry contests.

Our school is seriously lacking in technology! My classroom houses 115 diverse 7th and 8th graders throughout the day in a Title 1 school. My students come from mostly and impoverished background, where most don't own computers at home, and those that do don't often have internet access. Yet, due to a lack of funding, my school is also lagging technologically! My students aren't receiving the tools they need to succeed in such a digital age. If they are to go out in our society and get good jobs, they need technological skills! If they are to research well in high school and college for academic papers, they need internet research skills - how to find FACTUAL information! If they are to escape the entrapment of poverty, they need to understand advertising and have media literacy skills!

With a very simple purchase of a laptop, I can help my students learn how to prepare and present visual presentations. They can develop valuable speech skills, as well as valuable computer skills. I can also teach internet research skills to the whole group as we search together in the classroom on the laptop via the projector. We can watch streaming video on such sites as Discovery.com to explore relevant material that supports our curriculum in an engaging way. We can explore a range of advertising and develop invaluable skills as consumers to make prudent choices on how and where we spend our money. All of this can be achieved with a very small and inexpensive laptop.

Help my students move into the 21st century! Help them learn those invaluable skills they need to have in order to be competitive in our society's workforce. Please, give them the same edge that wealthier schools have, with a laptop only a fraction of a size and cost!
