My Students
My students are globally minded and are discovering how the Internet can be an academic tool that strengthens learning. My students thrive when lessons integrate technology like khanacademy.org, and are motivated by digital resources that have visual, auditory, and virtual manipulative tools.
The students at my school are from the northeast side of Chicago where there is a rich ethnic diversity and vibrant arts community.
89% of my students are from low income households. The students are 32% Hispanic, 30% Black, American, 17% White, 16% Asian, and 5% Other. Over half of the students speak a language other than English at home. About 1/3 of the students have recently immigrated to the U.S. from different parts of the world. The students are resilient learners that have overcome challenges in their lives and are excited about new learning opportunities. Their students share their cultures with one another and celebrate their diverse backgrounds.
The school collaborates with students and parents by continuously reflecting on progress, focusing on learning needs and data, while monitoring and adjusting instruction for individual success. We celebrate the diversity of our community by integrating fine arts and social emotional learning to educate the whole child.
My Project
The 21 Chromebook computers will allow students to engage in online learning experiences in their classrooms. The students will use these computers in their learning utilizing supporting programs/apps such as Khan Academy, Icivics, and ReadWorks. Students will practice math, social science, and reading content by using these free online programs which help target skills specific students need to develop. These programs provide teacher tools that we will use to support students at learning at their individual levels.
Students will create blogs, design web pages, watch TED Talks, publish pamphlets, type papers, and create videos using free Internet resources.
Students will use the computers to learn languages as part of elective programs offered at my school.
Special education students and English language learners will be learning math and reading skills, as well as furthering their attention and cognitive skills.
The Chromebook computers and charging cart will provide the resources for students to have regular computer use in their classrooms.
Students will become more motivated to learn by the visual and hands-on tools on Khan Academy, Icivics, and Readworks programs that they will use to develop or enrich their learning experience. This project will improve students' learning in Math, Social Science, and Language Arts through consistent use of the research based computer programs and digital project based learning.
