Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an energetic and vibrant bunch of first-grade learners. They come curious and prepared to immerse themselves in learning in a Spanish Immersion environment. They come from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. We are a Title I school, meaning we receive funds for free or reduced-price lunch.

Despite the challenges that come with distance learning, my students' resilience, and thirst to learn persevered until the end.

With time they adjusted and learned to navigate various platforms while completing both textbook and online assigned tasks, viewing my recordings, responding to my videos and those of classmates, and tuning in to scheduled Zoom meetings to socialize and review assignments. They even learned to make their own videos so we could all view their final hands-on projects and presentations! In the end, we learned to make the most out of our circumstances, and we worked together as the community of learners we always were from the start of the school year.

My Project

The requested web and document camera is such a key assistant tool in making sure that my students have full access to all the learning resources. First of all, it will facilitate my live and recorded teaching as I go from being the focus of the instruction to then viewing textbooks and documents. This will assist my students as they follow along at home with their own materials, sheets of paper or textbooks. Especially at their young age, my students rely heavily on watching concrete examples to be able to follow steps and successfully complete tasks. The web and document camera will help create experiences to reassure them that they are doing the assignments accurately and to the best of their ability.

The headset and microphone is also an essential tool in enhancing the quality of the delivery of my instruction during distance learning.

It will help me listen to my students and their responses better and vise versa, help them hear a clear version of what I am sharing via the microphone. In a program where learning language is at the center, I must guarantee the clarity and quality of the instruction for a good output.

Finally, the large writing pad which seems like such a simple and basic tool is also important in distance learning for my young learners. My young learners are naturally visual learners and thus, benefit greatly when they see examples and visuals. The large writing pad will help my instruction in all subject areas as I make and provide anchor charts, lists, written examples, illustrations, and all sorts of other visual scaffolds to help my students access the content.
