Technology is a must to meet the demands of Common Core State Standards and to prepare my 6th graders for the top high schools they hope to attend.
My 6th grade class is filled with dynamic, curious, and insightful students.
These students come to school every day from all over the city and from all different walks of life. What unites them is their desire to learn and find success in the classroom. Although our school is one of the elite schools in Chicago, we are still struggling to provide all our students with the technology needed.
My Project
I was able to secure 10 Google Chromebooks for our Language Arts classes. These laptops will primarily be used to differentiate instruction within the class. Students will be able to use these laptops for the program Achieve 3000, which provides each student with non-fiction, informational articles at their own reading level. Students will be able to read high-interest articles of their choice, as well as teacher assigned articles at their own level, which will help ensure comprehension. Additionally, this program will help students improve their reading comprehension and grow their lexile (reading level). These laptops will also be used to help students with computer skills such as typing, creating presentations, and preparing students for the computer based PARCC assessment. But we can't begin to gain the benefits of our technology without a secure storage system for our Chromebooks.
This project will provide my students with a way to safely store the technology we will be using everyday.
Additionally, this project will provide other materials, such as file folders, storage bins, post-it notes, etc that will be used daily for our Reader's and Writer's Workshops.
