This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"The world is at your fingertips!", that is what I want my students to experience. During this technological age, educational Apps have provided a means for students to learn lessons through fun games. Students are focused, engaged, and learning when using computer games.
I teach fourth grade at a low income school.
We have a population of about 2000 students from first to fifth grade. Our school have 1 computer lab with about 20 computers. Needless to say it is difficult to find a consistent computer time for my students. In our own classroom, we have 1 very old computer that we use for Accelerated Reading and Accelerated Math and a laptop used to supplement our daily lessons. I do the best I can with what little technology we have available. But I see the impact technology have on them when I do use it. They are fascinated, even mesmerize by the animation. I see them enjoying learning. That is what I want to give my students- the the joy of learning!
My Project
I once read a quote, "a great teacher makes learning fun". I try to do this in my classroom everyday. I need to be constantly on my toes to capture the attention of my students. The computers I have now have been helpful, but unfortunately, not capable of accessing educational Apps. Having a tablet that I can access is an awesome way to make learning fun for my students. They have an App for everything I teach daily such as: spelling, grammar, vocabulary, even astronomy and geography (which are content standard for fourth grade social studies). I would use this during their independent work time. The tablet can be a center that students can work at to review the different skills we have learned. They get to experience something they have no access of at home in the classroom.
I am so excited just thinking that this is even possible to happen.
I can just picture the smiles it would bring to these much deserving students. You have no idea the struggles these children face living with such poverty everyday. Some have probably not even seen a tablet nor have used an App before. So to be given the opportunity to use it to supplement their learning will be such an incredible gift. Thank you for your generosity. Just having the chance to get one is unbelievable to me.
