Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a teacher at a Title I school in an under-served community in the South Bronx. The children in my class love to learn new things and are working very hard. My class is self-contained and consists of students in grades K, 1 and 2. They all learn differently and all need extra support throughout the day. Most of my students are visual and multi sensory learners. My students are enthusiastic about learning and enjoy the arts and technology very much. I encourage my students daily to try their best at whatever they do because that is what is most important during their learning.
I am extremely proud of my students and all that they have accomplished thus far.
I have had students who started with me as non-readers and now have moved up three reading levels. I will continue to work hard to push my students to their fullest potential because I believe that anything is possible no matter what the circumstances. However, my class is in need of tablets to use to develop their reading skills during independent reading.
My Project
After I teach my students a mini lesson in reading they have the opportunity to read independently. Some of my students are functioning at lower levels than others and I would like for those students to use the various interactive reading programs that are available online.
My students enjoy working online using the Samsung tablet because they feel a sense of independence.
They will be able to work to obtain the skills needed to better their reading and become proficient readers by using online programs while having fun doing it. While I am working with small groups these students will be engaged in their reading without losing focus.
