Technology to Empower My Students

My students need computers to engage in project based learning and further their love for Social Studies.

My Students

Our school is a K-8 school that serves students of various ethnicities and socio-economic backgrounds. They are very eager to learn, however they lack the resources necessary to have a full educational experience. They enjoy technology and are mostly visual learners. As a Social Studies teacher there are numerous times when students must engage in research based practices, however we lack the funding to supply a class set of computers. Forty percent of my students are students with disabilities and they would enjoy research based learning because it caters to various learning modalities.

My Project

With these computers my students will be able to research primary and secondary sources all while activating prior knowledge and building upon new knowledge. Giving them the ability to research will help heighten their educational experience and love for Social Studies. Furthermore, 6th grade Social Studies requires students to be able to differentiate between fact and fiction. It is imperative that students are given adequate practice honing this skill by engaging in research based practices. Engaging in these practices will also help students to become college and career ready. For some of my students this will be their only opportunity to engage in project based learning. So, I hope you can help us!
