Help me give my students the opportunity to enhance their math experience in the classroom by completely immersing themselves in how technology can apply to their education.
My students are curious and dynamic! All of the students I have the privilege of working with are eager to take advantage of everything they can when they're at school. They come from diverse backgrounds, and approximately 75% of them are from low-income families. They strive to create a foundation for themselves to break the stigma about growing up in the Bronx.
My students are resilient, and I want to help give them the tools to surpass their goals.
When they talk about what their futures look like, you'll hear, "teacher, detective, doctor, veterinarian" and the list goes on. They all dream, and they're all thinking big. Why should they have to wait any longer to be exposed to the amazing resources that can help them get there?
My Project
With the use of iPads, students can be assessed in the moment to determine whether they truly understand the content. The world's expectation for these 8th graders are high, and with the iPad I can integrate a more interactive programming into my curriculum. With my own funds, and the resources that my school has been able to provide, I've made small strides to creating a technologically interactive classroom experience for these 8th grade students that they have never seen. Having this power literally at their fingertips mid-lesson, and being able to share ideas, and present analyses and reflections, a new iPad will help provide updated technology to make this experience more wholesome. Not only will this help me provide them all with a better education, but it also helps each student evaluate their own progress reassurance and gratification they'll receive when using the technology on a higher level than they've ever been exposed to.
Enriching the math experience with the capabilities of technology will show these children that the possibilities of what they can achieve are endless.
Children would love to be able to use electronics in the classroom, and there is no limit to how this will change they way these students think about and learn math. This project will not only allow me to assess students, but will also show my students how much more amazing math is.
