This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a diverse, low-income school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
A large majority of my students are being raised in single-parent households and 58.6% rely on free and reduced lunch.
They are children who are saddled with adult responsibilities in their home lives. These factors, along with others, may prevent my students from excelling in their academic careers. From the minute students walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth. I strive to inspire students to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
My classroom is set up engage students the minute they walk through the door. I have cultivated a positive, caring environment where students can take risks without ridicule. While 25% of my students are failing 2 or more subjects, I need to introduce and cultivate skills in technology, research, and collaboration that they can use across the curriculum.
I want to transform this iPhone generation of students into Technology Titans who will use technology responsibly, who can argue their case with words and evidence; not fists, and who can work in collaboration with others to reach a common goal.
My technology corner complete with a kidney-shaped table and chairs, a TV and Chromecast to project their work, and Chromebooks for research and project development will create a collaborative and engaging environment where students can strive to reach their untapped potential. Students will have the opportunity to work with technology that they may not have access to at home.
Having these experiences with technology and working collaboratively with their peers will help my advance their education and build socialization and teamwork skills.
My Social Studies classroom environment is designed to develop essential life as well as critical thinking skills. Using this technology in the classroom will give my students the skills they need to experience the success they deserve.
