This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I wake up every morning excited to start my day. I feel like I am the luckiest person on Earth for being able to work with such an amazing group of kids. Nearly all of my second grade students come from low income households and they are struggling to perform at grade level because they don't have the resources at home to succeed. Most of them are English Language learners and some of them are students with disabilities.
However, despite their struggles, their eagerness to learn is inspiring.
My goal is to get all of my students the access to resources they need to succeed academically.
My Project
My goal for this academic year is to have all of my students reading at grade level. This will increase their chances of succeeding academically. I am implementing two online reading programs.
Unfortunately, I do not have enough technology to use online reading based programs, so I am requesting these tablets to help.
Both programs are research based programs that motivate students to increase their fluency, reading accuracy, comprehension and accountability. The first reading program, RazKids, provides the students with online texts in a variety of genres. The second is Accelerated Reader, where the students use their own independent reading book and then the program provides reading accountability and comprehension with an online quiz. Also, the tablets will allow me to download my own ebooks for the kids to use during independent reading. My current library in the classroom is very limited for the grade level. Having access to ebooks would make their reading journeys unlimited.
