Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I want all of my students to be reading at grade level by the end of the year. In any one class, I can have students who have deficits in phonics, fluency, and/or comprehension. In order to meet the needs of all the students, I need to differentiate and hold small group instruction.
My students come to class each day with a desire to get better at something they have struggled with most of their educational careers; READING.
For many, English is their second language. I want to give them as many opportunities as possible to improve their reading. I want them all to be college and career ready. Wherever their educational path leads them after middle school, I want them to be successful.
My Project
My students need 2 Chromebooks in order to do some individual differentiated reading activities. Since each class has different degrees of needs and abilities, I need to meet with students in small groups. While I am meeting with these groups, the other students need to be doing independent work that is engaging. They can work on their comprehension on-line. They can enrich their understanding of the articles we read in Action magazine by completing online activities on the Scholastic website. Lastly, they can "talk" to each other about what they read through online discussion.
Many of my students don't have access to computers in their homes.
By having the 2 Chromebooks available in class, they will get that exposure. There are many online reading sites that students will be able to use. This engaging activity that involves reading will surely help them reach their goals of reading at grade level. They will feel successful.
