This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are K-8 special education students in a self-contained classroom setting. They have disabilities ranging from autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, visual impairments, emotional disturbances, etc. They are funny, creative, kind, witty and just all around awesome kids who deserve the world. My students benefit most from having an adult work in close proximity to them and for many hand-over-hand guidance is not only beneficial, it's necessary. This makes distance learning an even greater challenge for them than it does for their general education peers.
My Project
Since distance learning has started, I have learned that many of my classroom tablets are outdated. I have iPads that no longer run the current iOS which means that there are certain apps my students cannot access. My classroom is in need of new and updated technology so that students are able to access all the apps that are needed for their education. During distance learning (which extends into summer for my students, as the majority of them will be attending virtual Extended School Year or ESY) I plan to distribute these new tablets to the students who are need of updated technology at home in order access their education through distance learning.
