My Students
The only experience that many of my children encounter with technology is when I am able to take them to the computer lab for 30 minutes a week. Our computer lab is outdated with computers that are sometimes working, and sometimes not.
My school is a located in a small city within CT.
It is a K-5 elementary school that has a very diverse population of students whose families range from poverty level to middle class. The demand for technology in schools, as well as teaching technology to our students, is becoming more and more prevalent and will soon be mandatory with the new Common Core Standards.
Many of my children do not have the means or parental support to purchase or utilize computers at home. This is now our responsibility as educators to create these opportunities for our students and to expose them to different types of technology in the classroom to help foster and enrich their education.
Our district's budget is currently not able to support these technological advances and we are very behind compared to neighboring towns. I would love provide my students the experience all of the learning apps and tools that an iPad offers. It will enrich their learning experience far beyond what they are used to.
My Project
In my classroom this year I have fifteen children. Some students are academically average, some are performing above average and many struggle. All of my students require differentiated lessons and enrichment activities at their own levels of performance. Having access to the many wonderful apps that provide academic enrichment may be just the thing some of my students need to succeed and grow academically.
Many things excite elementary aged children. They are excited about reading new books and learning new things. I can only imagine what excitement an iPad can have and create in my classroom. I want my children to receive and experience the same technological opportunities that many other children from neighboring districts have.
I would use the iPads to explore books, play education games that support classroom content, and to search for information. I can only imagine the opportunities two iPads would create for a classroom of eager students!
I believe that every child should be provided the same opportunities, including technology, in order to learn and succeed.
Receiving two iPads for my classroom would be a step in the right direction. They would create new learning opportunities while supporting the new Common Core Standards that we are implementing. The opportunities could be endless and we would all be very grateful for the support!
