My Project
Since we returned from the COVID-19 shutdown, our students have had a hard time accessing technology. In particular any education involving a Chromebook can be very deregulating for our students.
We are a special education school for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities.
We are a small district that serves Washington County and the surrounding areas. Our students have been removed from the general education setting completely, because their home school districts cannot provide the level of support or expertise that our staff bring.
Our students academically need more structure and behavior management than traditional general education students, and we, just like so many schools, are incredibly underfunded and understaffed.
I want to introduce iPads into my instruction, to provide technology supports that are at the students' levels. Our students get very frustrated with Chromebooks, as do I if I’m being honest, but they all can use a phone better than even I can. If they can access their work, or have the ability to use a tablet to complete assignments, the likelihood of successfully reaching their goals set in their IEP have a greater likelihood of being achieved.
My students have been ignored, or labeled a problem, before they have been given the chance to succeed. I know I am asking for a lot, but greater technology supports can and will aid my students in succeeding and growing in their educational goals.
