Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The integration of technology to support curriculum goals and meet the needs of students is a must. The limited availability of computers puts my students at a disadvantage. I plan to use the applications through iPad to provide my students with curriculum support and enhanced technology knowledge.
A large majority of my student population comes from a lower socio-economic classification.
Despite this they are very eager learners that are willing to engage in their learning. Students want to contribute to the learning environment by being better prepared to participate in lessons. Students are at times hindered because they do not have the resources to utilize the many technology based programs and software. Our school houses both a traditional school structure and an International Baccalaureate program. The need to integrate technology in every discipline in our school is enforced by teachers even in Health and Physical Education. Our Health/PE department works diligently to engage and support student learning by incorporating as many experiences as possible. Our students are capable and deserve to have lessons that increase their knowledge base, provide an expanded view of how to problem solve and encourage their awareness of issues that affect Health and Wellness.
My Project
The iPad Mini provides several opportunities for the incorporation of technology in my classroom. Immediate access to resources supporting lessons in Health, Driver's Education, Physical Education and Dance are available. In Dance and Physical Education, I could provide examples of skill progressions with video support. The opportunity for students to utilize varying fitness applications, driving simulator videos and Health programs are available. As an IB school our 9th and 10th grade students participate in the Middle Years program. This requires the completion of multiple movement related compositions that need to be videotaped and uploaded. My students could utilize the iPad Mini to complete and edit these assessments without use of a computer or video camera. I plan to incorporate other programs for use in my lessons such as the ability of the iPad to link to an LCD Projector. This converts the iPad to a mini smartboard making lessons and power points interactive.
I believe all students should expect the incorporation of technology as the norm in all classrooms.
It should not be contingent upon life status or availability of school resources. Students learn in a number of ways with most being motivated by hands on techniques that encourage interaction with lessons. The iPad Mini will provide support for the academic objectives that extend student learning and keep them engaged through interactive applications.
