This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever felt like you're looking into a bowl of vegetable soup when your teacher asks you to read aloud? Well, this is nothing new to my Special Education students. It's my duty to make sure that they can put meaning to these jumbled up letters and turn that alphabet soup into word stew.

My first through fourth grade Special Education students reside in the GREAT state of Texas and they're GREAT (just like the state, of course).

Being a Special Education teacher I think that it is pertinent to do whatever I can to get my students to learn. I feel that the best way to do this is by differentiating their instruction by the way of hands on learning and reinforcing what they learned with educational programs on the IPads. I think that this reinforcement of technology is pertinent to their advancement to the next level of learning. I'm a firm believer of if you teach it to them they will learn, no matter what mental constraints are placed on them.

My Project

My students will use the hands on letter manipulative's, words, and magnetic boards to do just that. Be hands on with learning. This will grasp all of my visual and kinesthetic learners. To reinforce what I teach them in my small group or one on one reading lessons I can them have them use the IPads to play sight word race games, read stories, e-mail pen pals, or play sequencing games just to name a few. The IPads will also double as a communication tool for my ESL (English Second Language) or Nonverbal Autistic students.

I'm a firm believer of the more you're exposed, the more you learn.

What better way to engage the kids than with technology and hands on activities? The goal of the Technology Stew grant with the IPads and letter and word manipulative's is to provide different opportunities, forms of engagement and instruction that can get our kiddos seeing and learning in a way that they never learned before.
