Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My scholars are Special Education students living in the poorest Congressional District in the United States.The majority of my students do not have the ideal settings at home and look at our school as an escape for social emotional support as well as academic.

My students are part of an all-encompassing and inclusive community.

Within each classroom, there are students who are working below, at, and above grade level, as well as students who have mild or moderate disabilities. We adhere to the Common Core Standards but most of our curriculum is teacher-made. With that being said, the school’s aim is to provide students with as much technology as possible, but with financial cut backs it is impossible to supply each student with what they need. The school's computers are aged, don’t work properly, and are not able to deal with the assistive technology obtainable.

My Project

Our class would use the laptop multiple times during the school day to show educational video clips, teacher-made PowerPoint Presentations, or educational websites. With a new laptop, we will be able to successfully use these resources during our daily activities with an expansion of applications that would be available to them. Students will be able to use apps to read aloud text, to do speech to text, and to help them use online resources that go beyond what the textbook can offer them.

It is really important for our classroom to be able to stay a technologically-advanced classroom.

With this new laptop, we will be able to continue teaching and learning in meaningful ways with even more frequency than before.
