Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Ms H., if every star in the universe is a sun then that means life is possibly out there. I gave an affirmative response, "Yes, it is likely that life is out there." My students continued their group projects, conducting research on our solar system.

I work in one of the most overcrowded districts in New York City and it is also the best-performing district in the Bronx.

My school is home to two honors academies that serve students from districts 9 and 10, as well as one academy that serves zoned students. Most of my students are living in poverty; most of them have navigated insecure housing; most are either immigrants or first-generation Americans; and most have experienced the loss of one or more parents to incarceration. Yet, my students come to school every day, ready to learn.

My Project

The 5 Chromebooks will make a significant difference in the learning experience of my students in the self-contained science classroom. Having the 5 additional Chromebooks will allow all twelve of my students to have their own laptop, therefore, enabling them to take ownership of their work at every stage of learning. My students have blossomed academically with their access to the 7 Chromebooks that I introduced to the classroom in January.

My students take ownership of the tasks that are assigned to them, opting on many occasions to stay in during their lunch to finish their assignments.

My students produce quality laboratory reports, research papers, citizen science investigations, and group power points with their Chromebooks.
