Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students only have computer lab time once a week for 40 short minutes. We need a classroom technology center for our integrated curriculum, which includes individual and group projects that require research using technology.

My students are eager beavers when it comes to learning.

They are tech savvy in some areas, like how to play video games, but they need much practice in keyboarding skills and research. The majority of my students qualify for the federal free lunch program. They are respectful, responsible, and kind to peers and school staff. Students and parents are stakeholders at our school site, always engaged, always volunteering to help, and always eager to learn something new. It is a pleasure and honor to tell people that I am lucky to be teaching these children, as they almost always inspire me to be better, through their random acts of kindness and respect.

My Project

Technology in our classroom will give my students the ability to research important topics and big questions. Lessons will be taught on how to determine if information is fact or opinion based on evidence from various sources. Students need to learn how to validate and acknowledge information they have found on the Internet, and to question the accuracy of this information. Students will also learn how to take their research and choose the focal point of their written report/essay. Technology in the classroom will help the students learn how to think critically, while also preparing them for their college discourse.

Having a technology center in my classroom will have a huge impact on how my students explore the world beyond their physical location.

Laptops will help students learn things in real time, while learning how to become critical thinkers as they disseminate the information they find. Students will be able to access approved educational websites, while accessing curriculum that will prepare them for Smarter Balanced Assessments, college and careers.
