Technology Needed in Our Urban Kindergarten Classroom

My students need two iPads, protective cases and screen covers for them, headphones and an interactive educational games such as Catch-to Learn Matching Quantities and Pick-a-Trick matching Letters and Sounds Interactive games to give them the learning that will make them successful in the 21st century learning environment.

My Students

Our students are a diverse group of learners that live in a low income area. The urban district school in which they attend is filled with pre-k and kindergarten learners. We are a kindergarten classroom in that great environment that has children that are 5 and 6 years old. These young learners may not have access to technology, books or reading manipulatives in their homes. They come in every day willing and ready to explore learning with our materials and manipulatives.

Our kindergarten students are expected to do more and more especially in the use of technology as our world is becoming more technology centered.

Our classroom has very little in the way of technology to meet our ever changing world in the face of this technology influx. My students love to use any type of technology and being an urban district we are lacking with any type o technology instruction.

My Project

My students need two iPads, protective cases and screen covers for them, headphones and an interactive educational games such as Catch-to Learn Matching Quantities and Pick-a-Trick matching Letters and Sounds Interactive games to give them the learning that will make them successful in the 21st century learning environment. Our kindergarten students are expected to do more and more academically as our world is becoming more technology centered. Our classroom has very little in the way of individual technology to meet our ever changing world in the face of this technology influx. We have a laptop connected to the Smartboard and 1 iPad to use in the classroom. This means that only 1 or 2 students per day can use the iPad to work with technology. With 17 students in the classroom that means they get to use the iPad once every 8-17 school days. My students love to use any type of technology and being an urban district we are lacking in this type of technology instruction.

I want to be able to bring everything I can to my students to level the playing field for them in this growing tech-savvy world.
