Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at an magnet school for environmental science in North Houston. Our families are considered low income and 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. We have many students who partake in the Backpack Buddy program to ensure that the family will have food for the weekend.
My students are smart, fun, loving and resilient learners.
We're looking forward to the day when we can be together again in the classroom. In class, we focus on building student confidence and skills in reading, writing, math, science and social studies.
During this time of social distancing many of my students are missing their school routine, friends and teachers. We will continue to incorporate social emotional learning, building a school family and a safe learning environment during our virtual lessons. Our students need all of the help they can get right now to be successful.
My Project
We are noticing that many of our students are lacking the devices they need to be successful. I am requesting Chromebooks for my students to use for virtual learning at home. Not having these devices hinders their ability to get online, participate in lessons, complete assignments and interact with their classmates and teachers.
My students are eager to learn but not all can afford the luxury of multiple technology devices in their household.
We teach several live lessons virtually every day. When my students have siblings learning at the same time it is very difficult for them to join our lessons. Having a device of their own to use during the day will be so beneficial. Even during virtual learning, we understand the importance of learning and we know it can be done, help me help my students succeed this year.
