This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The best and easiest way to describe my students is that they are survivors. My class is a dual language kindergarten classroom, and I am charged with teaching them Spanish, language arts and math. I will have two classes, each consisting of 21 highly motivated and fully charged five-year-olds. My children and their families have been hit hard by Hurricane Harvey. Many of my families had to be evacuated, and our school sustained a lot of damage. We are teaching at a relocation site with the basics. We couldn't ask our parents for any type of supply after what they went through. My kids are ready to be back at their school, but we need some technology to replace what we lost during the hurricane and some new technology to open up their world. We hope to be back at our school soon and these items would help my students adjust to yet another move.
My Project
We have been teaching at a relocation site since the beginning of the school year and we need some technology to help drive instruction. We lost our guided reading library during Hurricane Harvey. The monochrome printer and ink would allow me to copy and print online books for my small group guided reading time. The iPad pro, keyboard case, apple TV, and apple pencil would allow me to make whole group instruction more meaningful. I would be able to mirror what is on my tablet for the students. We have some iPad minis so I would be able to use the classroom application to place student's work on the projector. I would be able to move around the room while teaching. If a student does an outstanding job we could all share and appreciate it as a class. I would be able to instruct the students and they would be able to follow along with ease. The iPod touch would allow me to transfer all the classroom song playlists and play the songs we need. I have the playlists divided my subject area, and/or concept so playing them would be so easy. The headphones with microphone and mouse pads would be used with the three desktops we have in the classroom. The kids would be able to read on the screen and record themselves and as a teacher I would be able to share it with the parents. Technology is the key to a brighter future and my students deserve it after all they have been through this school year.
