This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a kinder/first grade split class at a Title 1 school. My students are energetic and eager to learn. Having technology access at school would allow me to integrate technology within our Common Core curriculum and provide my students with the necessary skills to be college and career ready.
I have been teaching for 18 years.
I have taught mostly fourth and fifth grade. However, in the last three years, I have taught kinder and first grade. Being fairly new to the primary curriculum, I want to increase my knowledge of technological resources and improve my teaching practice. I am learning to understand and implement the Common Core standards by creating lessons that are aligned with the new standards and teaching practices. The resources I have been using are found online, such as the NY Engage lessons. Having an iPad would help me continue my research and help me to find appropriate complex text that will align with our standards and connect to our district reading program's theme. I continue to seek out resourceful websites to help create my lessons that will ultimately benefit my students and help them achieve mastery of the standards.
My Project
Since I am learning to understand and implement Common Core State Standards across the curriculum, I have been attending Professional Development in regards to the Common Core and often the instructors ask that participants bring an electronic device to use during the training. As grade level chair, I also research educational applications and websites utilizing symboloo as a way of sharing these resources with my colleagues. I continue to research Common Core resources such as achievethecore.com. I seek out educational videos so that my grade level and I can watch modeled lessons from other quality teachers. These lessons have been found on the teaching channel, learnzillion, and inside mathematics. I also can use this technology to analyze student data to drive my teaching instruction. Using this data allows me to plan lessons that are aligned with the Common Core standards and are more engaging for the students.
Having a technological tool at school would allow me to integrate technology within our Common Core curriculum and provide my students with the necessary skills to be college and career ready.
An iPad would help me teach with a more participative and engaging approach. I could expose my classroom to a world of online resources. Best of all, technology integration in my classroom will help my students learn the skills they need to survive in a complex, highly technological knowledge-based world.
