Help me give my students more digital learning opportunities by adding Chromebooks to our classroom. We will be incorporating technology into our realistic environmental unit. Students will work with digital resources
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In our school, we have incorporated our ELA units with STEM. The second-grade students are working on saving the world one environmental issue at a time! You may be thinking, “How could a second grader help bring change to environmental issues?” Here is your answer: second graders will create a realistic fiction story that includes story elements to share around the school community to bring awareness to those problems.
A big part of STEM is technology!
Students will choose their own format to tell those stories to teach/inspire others as to how they can care for and help the environment. Student choice is so important! Students will have choices that may include typing a script, recording a puppet show, writing a hard copy of their stories, or creating a digital version using an online tool such as StoryJumper or they can make a storyboard to share as well. Students may not have access to technology at home. We want to make sure they are able to use computers while they are in school. Access is key! Technology is an essential tool in our classroom. Students need to have access to online resources to help expand their horizons beyond the basic textbook. Students are able to create projects and use different applications on their Chromebooks. Students are able to access learning websites to help reinforce learning.
In addition, we are also asking for mentor texts that focus on environmental issues. This will help start our students' brain power about how they can save the world and incorporate it into their writing. Students will supplement their stories with a project of their choice created from recycled materials. Through listening to the mentor text Kenya's Art students will be able to see what they can make from recycled materials.
