Do you remember the world without Wifi? How slowly a computer would process a search? Well, the computers within our classroom are so old that gathering information can be tedious and within the time allotted, proper information is not gathered.
My fifth grade students are part of a wonderful grade and are in an ICT program where there are special education and general education students.
They truly are an amazing group of students. They have a limitless amount of motivation, love to be challenged and CRAVE knowledge. This is why we need these laptops. We could search the Internet properly, in order to gain new knowledge. This is what engages my students' learning. Getting these laptops will assist them in becoming better researchers and gain information, but they will also be working together within groups in order to develop a deeper understanding. Not only will we use these laptops in order to research information, but we could also connect them with our Smart Board in order for the students to share their information with the remaining students in the class. This way the entire classroom can be affected by these laptops
My Project
Within my ICT classroom, we promote project-based learning and technology. With the computers we have right now, this task seems impossible. Many times students need to go home or use other outside sources in order to gather information. Yet this isn't what project-based learning is about. It needs to be about researching proper information together. However, with these laptops, we could promote project-based learning and assist these students in becoming stronger at what they already know. We have also been promoting the ability to learn from your peers. Not only do we work in groups, but we also work in partnerships where the students work together to properly solve problems. Nothing is better than hearing a classroom filled with "Now I get it!". With these laptops, we can share properly with the entire class. Students need to see that a certain problem can be solved using multiple methods. With the assistance of the laptop, we can share all of these methods.
Technology is the future.
Having students use their strengths to help promote what they are learning, is my goal. It is important that my students have a classroom that enhances their learning experience, and the key is technology. Be the reason why these students continue to be motivated and the reason why they continue to crave information. Help us develop a deeper understanding on topics, while we get ready for our future and properly use technology. Be the difference for these students.
