Imagine trying to learn how to be competitive in 21st century college classes while working with early 20th century technology. This atmosphere does not provide the best atmosphere for my dedicated forensic students. My school is in an urban, high needs district and does not have adequate resources.
My students are amazing creative individuals who, despite their situation, have a positive attitude in life.
The majority live in poverty and qualify for free lunches. They do not have background and exposure to best serve them when competing with other high school students for post-secondary placement. They are taking college classes in high school, which shows their potential. However I do not have the "college" technology to enhance our course. I believe this forensics class will inspire some to pursue their interest in science.
My Project
I believe the GPS unit will offer my students the opportunity to locate clues and evidence in their forensic science class. Students will learn to find clues and research to logically determine which "suspect" is guilty. An additional bonus, students will utilize math skills to calculate coordinates. Moreover, students will work closely with their peers and gain experience in the art of group work. By exposing my students to the latest technology, their horizons will be broadened. Their passion for discovering new and exciting knowledge in a creative, project-based environment will be fostered. Additionally, the multimedia DVDs and books will enhance their understanding of the content in the class.
In order to succeed in college or the job market,it is a necessity to have 21st technology skills.
It is with these supplies that I plan to make a difference in my students' learning this year. I want all my students to do well in this class and have an opportunity to pursue college. For many of my students, they will be the first in their family to attend college.
As a parent and a teacher, I realize the impact education makes on my students. Thank you for your consideration of this project.
