My Students
My students are eager to learn! I believe a child's desire to learn is directly correlated to the type of instruction they receive in the classroom. In other words, the more engaging and exciting a lesson, the more likely a student will love to learn and want to do more of it!
My students have a lot of disadvantages in their life.
I teach a high-needs state-funded full day school for at-risk, low achieving students. I work in a high Latino population, and half of my students speak Spanish as their first language. Every student is coming to school for the first time, having never attended preschool. Ninety percent of these students are below the poverty line. They have lots of things stacked against them. But research shows that early intervention is key to academic success. And that's where we come in! I spend every day working hard to get these students excited about learning, reading, writing, and counting, while helping them catch up to their peers. I want them to have everything they need to do that!
My Project
I have amazing technology in my school! An electronic whiteboard is the latest and greatest technology for elementary classrooms - Teachers can take turns using it. It allows all learners to interact with activities, create meaningful and enriching experiences, and deeply enhances the curriculum in a fun way. I feel so fortunate to be able to provide my low-income students with such a great educational tool. However, it's ESSENTIAL that there is a working computer attached to the whiteboard to access all of these opportunities. My desktop computer constantly freezes and shuts off. Our engaging lessons are constantly put on hold and some days I can't even get the computer to turn on. We are desperate for a new, fast computer that allows us to practice math and reading as our sight words flash onto a screen. We could have access to interactive fun learning activities to engage the whole class! Also, My students need some desk nameplates to help them with their Math.
I'm asking for a computer so my students can access activities for every curricular activity.
This is vital for true implementation of the board into the classroom. With this one item, the entire board is accessible to every student and every lesson is enhanced! With your help, fun learning tools can be brought into my classroom to use with every lesson and give us a real chance to enjoy this amazing piece of technology. Also, I need some desk plates to help my students with math problems.
