My students need their own computer mouse in order to easily navigate their Chromebooks.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from low income/high poverty families. Many have just arrived to the US from refugee camps from Syria, Somalia, and Thailand. In my 4th grade class I have reading levels that span from letter/sound recognition for my English Learners, to the beginning of Kindergarten for my struggling readers, all the way up to 5th grade for my GATE students. Trying to stock my classroom library with interesting texts at the correct reading level for each of my students has proven to be quite the challenge.
My Project
Our district is lucky to be able to provide even the most neediest of students their own personal device. 4th graders have Chromebooks, and they have been proven to be a great tool in our classroom. We use them for math, word study, writing, and more!
Technology is supposed to help us, not frustrate us!
Many of my students struggle with the laptop touchscreen so much that trying to use it correctly becomes a lesson within itself. If they each had their own mouse to use, manipulating words and numbers on the screen would become so much easier. My students would be able to focus on the actual content rather than their inability to properly use the tricky touch pad.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
