My students need five Chromebook laptops and 10 sets of headphones as tools for learning to promote creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills in this digital age.
My students know how to use technology to access games and videos; however I want them to gain skills to effectively and efficiently research a variety of topics aligned to our curriculum. Unfortunately, my classroom does not have laptops or headphones.
My students live in a village that has a strong sense of community and you get this feeling on our K-8 campus.
Our Title I school is culturally and linguistically diverse and serves about 800 students. Teachers have a student-centered view of education and it is evident with high levels of student engagement throughout our classrooms.
My Project
In this digital age, I envision moving beyond stand alone technology and moving towards integrating technology into my literacy stations. The requested Chromebook laptops and headphones would allow me to set up a research station for use on a daily basis. Students would have opportunities to collaborate in teams to research online, analyze information, and write about different topics to produce creative and meaningful digital products. This would deepen and enhance their learning process in the areas of reading comprehension, critical thinking, analytical writing, and research skills.
Contributing Chromebook laptops and headphones would allow my students to exponentially improve several skills needed for the 21st century: critical thinking, interpersonal skills, the ability to analyze information, solving problems, and making decisions.
Funding my project will also allow my students to be college and career ready in an increasingly technological world.
