Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We were supposed to start classes September the 5th at our elementary school. I met my new first graders for the first time on August 31, 2017, at our annual "Meet and Greet the Teacher." When my students entered our classroom, it was all decorated and ready for learning.
After Hurricane Harvey, my classroom is gone, my school has been taken apart and we have been relocated to another school that is 7 miles away from the original location.
When I first met my students, they appeared to be energetic and eager to learn. Most of my students are having bad experiences after the hurricane, and I would like them to have an enjoyable and fun year of learning in our class. They come from low income families and they are part of a dual language program.
My Project
My first grade students are bilingual children trying to learn math and literacy skills in both English and Spanish. We are requesting an iMac computer. My students will be able to use technology by using applications in their Apple Computer and will give my students the opportunity to receive technology integrated lessons that will help them become more active explorers and learners.
I also plan to use the Apple Computer to take the whole classroom on virtual field trips and to connect with other classrooms by planning Skype lessons and learning from other cultures around the world.
My students will also be able to use the Apple computer to listen to read-a-louds and access a huge selection of books through online sources. The computer will also be used to master math objectives in the following areas: counting coins, word problems, telling time, place value, geometry, etc.
Remember that every dollar counts! My students and I will greatly appreciate it if you bless them with a monetary gift going towards the Apple desktop. You will not regret helping them to fulfill their goals!
