it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like learning to read and do basic math skills? Please help my students improve their reading and math skills with the use of technology.
My students attend a preschool through eighth grade school in the city.
My students are second, third and fourth grade special education students. These students have various learning disabilities and therefore, they struggle with reading fluency and comprehension. They also struggle with basic math skills. Many students are reading significantly below grade level. They have difficulty with sight word recognition, phonemic awareness, comprehension and fluency. In math, they have difficulty telling time, counting money, and with number sense. Although they struggle in these areas, they are an extremely hard working group of kids who want to improve. It is amazing to see them when they understand a concept we have been working on in math, and it is amazing to see their reading skills improve on a daily basis. They are an energetic group who benefit from differentiated instruction. Using the reading and math CD-Roms will help them improve their reading and math skills.
My Project
My students are extremely hard workers and love to learn. They absolutely love using the classroom computer, and I usually use it as an incentive for completing work and good behavior. I would love to have more math and reading computer programs to help my students with their fluency, comprehension and basic math skills. I also have a starboard in my classroom, which allows me to project images from my laptop onto a large screen that students can touch. I think we could do a lot of small group instruction using the starboard and new reading and math computer programs. I would be able to incorporate the programs into both my reading and math instructional time and also let the students use them individually in their free time. The computer programs will help students learn how to tell time, count money, phonemic awareness, comprehension strategies and test taking strategies.
Donations to this request will help make a tremendous difference in my students' lives.
It is one more way to help them achieve success in reading and math. My students require a lot of differentiated instruction and these programs will help kinesthetic and visual learners improve their reading and math skills. Basic reading and math skills are the foundation for their academic future.
