Hello, my name is Mrs. G and I'm a SETSS provider at a school in Brooklyn, New York. SETSS is specifically designed for supplemental instruction provided by a special education teacher that can help children stay in the general education classroom. SETSS may be provided for as few as three hours per week and as much as 50% of each school day.
SETSS happens in two ways:
Direct Instruction
The special education teacher may work directly with students; specially designed or supplemental instruction to better help specific needs of each student. The special education teacher may adapt the subject matter (“modified curriculum”) and/or use visual aids, highlighted work sheets, simplified directions, and other kinds of “modified instruction" which include laptops for research and also for reinforcement for appropriate behavior.
Indirect Instruction means that the special education teacher may also work with students in the general education setting. SETTS teacher may adjust the learning environment and/or modify and adapt instructional techniques and methods to meet students individual needs.
In order to better build their tool set for general education classrooms there are essential materials I will need to make learning interesting and fun.
My Project
Having a chromebook in classrooms will help struggling students to learn in a fun way. Giving them these tools will strategize them for better learning opportunities. Special education children need more time to understand basic laptop functions and how to research for various projects and Visual aids will be a big help for them to succeed. A laptop will be essential for all students in the school building. Since technology is in our every day life by donating a laptop to this project you will help the students to be better equipped to keeping up with today's technology. Laptops are good for all subject matter including math, literacy, writing, art, science, and social studies. Thank you for donating.
