My Students
I work in a school that is high poverty, with the majority of the students being on free/reduced lunch. The students have required Ondine weekly tests to complete, but many do not have computers at home.
While our students' home experiences are not always the greatest, they are fortunate to come to a brand new building with teachers and staff who foster a sense of community for the children.
Students from every grade are known by many of the teachers in the building, and their success is the motivation for these teachers to continue working with these students. This school has received failing grades in the past few years, but with an entirely new staff, we are working at turning this around. My students are creative, imaginative, and very smart. They love reading and writing, and enjoy the technological experiences that they have at school. Many of my students do not have computers or tablets at home.
My Project
The students at our school have weekly required tests that they take on the computer. Students have the ability to practice for these tests during the week on their home accounts, but since many of my students don't have computers, they are unable to practice. Having iPads in my room would help these students practice during the week while at school, so that they have the same advantages as the students who do have computers at home.
My students will be able to practice and work toward receiving passing grades on their weekly assessments.
My students who do not get to experience technology at home will be able to use these iPads to receive this practice time as well. The iPads are accessible and easy to navigate for students, so that they can learn independence and work towards their continued success in the classroom.
