My Students
There's no doubt about it, we are raising digital children. My students know more about technology than I did at their age. In order to enhance their learning and keep them engaged with relevant technology, we need specific tools in our classroom. We must meet them where they are at!
My students attend a Title 1 school in OK.
They love to stay busy and get excited when I introduce them to new knowledge. My students learn by being involved and applying the skills I am teaching them. I have 19 students and only 1 student computer. They enjoy getting on storybird.com to create original stories of their own, reading e-books on Storia, playing math games on everydaymathonline.com, doing research over an interest or a question they have, and so much more.
My Project
Having an iPad in our classroom will allow more of my students the opportunity to do projects, research, or enhance their learning. There are a multitude of educational apps and websites that get kids excited about learning. When we are able to connect our emotions with our learning, we won't forget it.
There is a Chinese proverb that says, I hear and I forget; I see and I remember; I do and I understand.
That speaks volumes about where students are at presently. They retain more knowledge when they are active in their learning and they enjoy it too, which is even better.
