Technology in Our Future - Project Based Learning

My students need mini Ipads to research and video record experiments and their learning. Using the digital voice recorders will record data for projects.

My Students

Our young fourth graders are eager to develop their technological skills for the future. For about half of these students, this is not possible as their families do not have the technology or Internet access to help provide them the opportunities that they need to keep up with the world today.

Our fourth grade class of 29 students is a heterogeneous inclusion class in Hawaii.

They are curious about how the world works as they try to keep up with current issues and futuristic needs. Most of them will graduate from high school however will not be provided the skills necessary to work with technology in the future. From a school of approximately 500 students, we try to provide them opportunities with technology in and out of the classroom. Currently our classroom has 4 computers and we go to the computer lab once a week however this limits our everyday use of technology. By providing these students with additional technological resources, they will be able to engage in their learning every day in the classroom.

My Project

As we move into project based learning and students taking ownership of their own learning, our classroom needs these resources for lessons that focus on investigating the world around them. Using these technological devices in the classroom will help them be able to explore and use technology to help them answer complex questions and better understand real life issues. Students will plan and carry out investigations to answer these questions or test their solutions. They will also be able to record their data as they investigate or research information to further their investigations. With the addition of these resources in the classroom, more students can involved in their project based learning.

As our students continue to grow and learn about the world around them, these donations will help them have access to technology logical thinkers.

We want these students to be curious about their world and its issues. This is one step to help them to research, investigate, answer their questions and further their knowledge with their project based learning. Students will develop necessary skills that will better prepare them for their future education and life.
