Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are excited and eager to learn and they come to school ready to be the best they can be! My goal is for 100% of my students to be reading proficiently by the end of the school year. I would like my students to continue their love of learning and love of reading by implementing technology

My school is a Title I school.

This means that most of my students have free or reduced lunch. They come from a low income home. My students come from homes that may not have Internet access. It is important for them to have access to technology for their futures! It also captivates their attention and helps them to learn new skills more quickly. My students will able to be challenged by picking different apps based on their current levels. My class typically consists of 20 wonderful kindergartners ranging from 4 to 6 years old. As a kindergarten teacher, I work with students at all levels. I provide a lot of emerging, on-level, and above-level instruction, content support, and vocabulary/grammar development. By the end of the school year, I want my students to feel confident in their reading skills.

My Project

I am requesting 5 iPad Minis to help them become fluent readers through a reading center. My students will utilize these devices daily during our 90 minute literacy block. During the literacy block, these devices will be at a center where students can listen to stories to improve comprehension, listening, and fluency skills. Having a device in the room that reads to the children will not only expose them to a variety of literature but will solve the need for my children to have adults modeling fluent reading to increase students' own fluency skills. While my students are exposed to fluent reading at that center, I can work with a small group of students on individual needs such as phonemic awareness, phonics, and critical reading skills at another center. The iPads are sure to engage my students and maximize their exposure to fluent reading during the literacy block.

I am hoping to raise enough money to build exciting literacy centers for my students.

By donating to my project, you will help expose my kindergartners to technology in a technology based world. There are so many hands-on-activities that allow for students--who do not yet read or write independently--to craft factual or imaginary stories, to capture and explain their ideas and creations, to record their discoveries, or explore and seek information from outside the classroom setting.
